Information on Skin Pigmentation Disorders and Treatment

Pigmentation Treatment

Skin pigmentation disorders are very common, especially among people who are of darker skin color. There are numerous conditions involving skin discoloration, but among the most common types are hyperpigmentation, age spots and vitiligo. There are many factors that cause these conditions, but excess sun exposure is often responsible for many of the problems regarding skin pigmentation disorders, except for conditions such as vitiligo which might be an autoimmune disorder or even possibly of genetic origin

Skin Pigmentation Disorders

Among the most common disorders that are distinguished by changes that occur in the coloration of the skin, vitiligo may be the one that affects the largest number of people.. Vitiligo is a very noticeable discoloration of the skin and it usually involves the depigmentation of patches of skin. These patches turn lighter over time and they can either be spread all over the body or affect one side or even both sides of the body equally. There are many people who suffer from this condition and the most famous person who had the disease was Michael Jackson, as you probably know. Although as a kid he was black, as he grew older the man turned lighter and lighter- so much that many thought he was undergoing skin treatments in an effort to look “white.” Sadly, it took his autopsy to prove that he really did have vitiligo.

Of course, there are pigmentation treatments that can be used, but for many people they are simply too expensive. Another condition similar to vitiligo is hyperpigmentation, which is where people develop patches darker in color on their skin. As with vitiligo, there are many pigmentation treatment products which can be used in order to treat this condition.

Laser Treatment for Skin Pigmentation Disorders

When it comes to skin pigmentation disorders, the best pigmentation treatment may be laser skin treatment, which is usually the most effective, although it is often the most expensive too. Even though it may cost a lot of money, there are many people who go through such a pigmentation treatment, because they want to get rid of their embarrassing problems. Skin discoloration disorders are very common and people should not feel embarrassed; rather, they should do anything they can to make things better for themselves, and the best thing they can do is try to get such a laser treatment. Laser technology has become very popular in the past couple of years especially due to the fact that it is so effective and it shows results very quickly. The thing with these types of treatments is that they are not recommended for people who have darker skin. Given that laser treatments are used to get rid of blemishes such as age spots, dark spots, freckles or wrinkles, they should not be used on people who have darker skin, as they can leave lighter spots on the face or on the area of the body the laser treatment was applied to. Although the procedure is extremely safe and the side effects are usually insignificant, it would be best for people with olive or darker skin to stay away from it, no matter how much they wish to do it.

Other Pigmentation Treatments

Although there are many pigmentation treatment remedies which can be used at home, such as lemon juice, the creams that are produced by cosmetic companies are often most effective for hyperpigmentation, or age spots. There are also treatments using chemical acids known as chemical peels, but the most effective pigmentation treatment is these skin lightening creams. Products such as VICHY’s creams or LA ROCHE’s creams are among the most popular and even though they are a bit more expensive than other creams used in a pigmentation treatment, they are often more effective and it takes less time for them to work properly. There are many women who have used these products and their reviews are simply incredible. It seems that these creams work spectacularly and they are very easy to use too. All you need to do is apply them as many times as needed and you will get rid of many of the blemishes on your face or your body. Keep in mind that you need to be careful, though, and whatever type of pigmentation treatment you decide to go with, it is very important to check in with your dermatologist first. He will know exactly what type of treatment you need and will work best for your skin type.
